Metrology is the science of measurement and the application of measurement in various human activities. The operation of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) is focused on improving the metrology system in Bosnia and Herzegovina and ensuring the quality of measurement results with the aim of improving economic security and quality of life.

The Institute is an independent administrative organization directly responsible to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina established by the Law on the Establishment of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina", No. 43/04), and operates within its competences within the legal framework defined by the Law on Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina", No. 19/01) and the Law on Measurement Units of Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina", No. 19/01), and other legal acts regulating the work of administrative organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The institute represents an integral part of the quality infrastructure of BiH and is recognized in the European and international network of metrology institutes. In this sense, the Institute participates in the establishment and maintenance of the national and international measurement system based on a unique system of measurement units and practices in proving the traceability of measurement results. The Institute represents Bosnia and Herzegovina in international institutions dealing with scientific and legal metrology and thus promotes the metrology system of Bosnia and Herzegovina on a global level.

The Institute is responsible for the development and maintenance of national measurement standards, as well as the establishment and provision of professional metrology services in the field of industrial, legal, and scientific metrology. The traceability of measurements carried out on the basis of developed standards and measurement methods supports the confidence of industry, the scientific community, and all citizens of BiH in the quality of goods and services that are based on the results of measurements in the most diverse areas of human activity, from environmental and health protection to securing economic space. Scientific research activities carried out in the Institute in cooperation with the international metrological community are aimed at the development of new and improvement of existing metrological techniques and methods with the aim of meeting the needs for services in the public and private sectors.

The basic resource of the Institute is its staff, whose internationally proven competencies enable the realization of activities in the field of scientific, industrial, and legal metrology, which include the development of standards and reference materials, calibration of measuring instruments, testing of measuring instruments and different materials, proficiency testing of laboratories, and tools for assessing measurement uncertainty and transfer of knowledge in the field of measurement quality assurance.

Continuous monitoring and participation in the development of science and technology, as well as ensuring the regulatory framework of action is a responsible job that requires a lot of investment in the resources of the Institute and the metrology system of BiH, but it gives significant results in the direction of ensuring the trust of service users - all citizens. It is a pleasure to be the head of a team that continuously works on the realization and design of the above activities, following local needs and the development of metrology globally.
