The seventh meeting of the SMIIC Metrology Council was held in Gebze-Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, organized by the Turkish Metrology Institute UME TUBITAK, which hosted the event from January 28-29, 2020.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Mustafa Çetintas, Director of UME and Chairman of the SMIIC MC.
The meeting was also welcomed by SMIIC General Secretary Mr. Ihsan Övüt.
Dr. Mustafa Çetintas had a presentation outlining the importance of metrology in day-to-day activities and how many percent of metrology accounts for gross national income in different countries, which averages is 3-6% of GDP in developed countries such as the USA, Canada, and UK.
The main topic of the meeting was the further development of SMIIC MC services and OIC members in the field of metrology. Proposals for further development were explained by Dr. Mustafa Çetintas, Dr. Zijad Džemić, Dr. Cihan Kudzu and Dr. Enver Sadikoglu through presentations with detailed information and activities.
The progress of the SMIIC MC capacity building program for SMIIC MC members was presented.
The meeting also presented the current achievements of individual national metrology institutes.
The next SMIIC MC meeting is proposed for September 2020 in Istanbul.
