As part of the implementation of the scientific research project within EMPIR (European Metrology Program for Innovation and Research) 16ENG05 Metrology for Biomethane, in the consortium where the Institute of Metrology of BiH participated together with the state metrology institutes of the Netherlands (VSL), United Kingdom (NPL), Germany (PTB), Sweden (RISE) and Finland (VTT), and a number of external partners from the European scientific and industrial community, have developed a number of proposals for new ISO standards that would allow the application of traceable test methods for conformity assessment of products – biomethane, for injection into established natural gas grid in terms of application EN 16723 - Natural gas and biomethane for use in transport and biomethane for injection in the natural gas network.
Expert of the Institute of Metrology of BiH, MSc. Katarina Hafner-Vuk, has prepared a proposal for an ISO document with the working title ISO 2613-1 Analysis of natural gas - Silicon content of biomethane - Part 1: Determination of total silicon content by AAS. The mentioned IMBIH expert is a member of ISO / TC / 193 Natural gas, as well as BAS / TC31 Gas and gas technology. This normative document describes a method for measuring the total concentration of silicon in biomethane, biogas and similar gaseous matrices when used in natural gas networks and when used as a transport fuel for transport. The method is based on the use of gas impingers with liquid absorbent to accumulate silicon from a gas sample, followed by instrumental analysis using atomic emission spectrometry.
The developed methods have been proposed for consideration in the form of ISO standards according to the ISO Technical Committee for Natural Gas ISO / TC193 / SC1 / WG25 Biomethane and are currently in the adoption phase.
We are proud of the fact that the expert of the Institute of Metrology of BiH and a member of the technical committee of the Institute for Standardization is both the author and the proposer of a normative document that is of international importance.
