The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBiH) will host a two-day training course on measurement uncertainty, which will be held in Sarajevo on March 22-23, 2021. The training course is targeted at staff at the Western Balkan countries, i.e. at NMIs, accreditation bodies, technical auditors and industry stakeholders.
The expertise level required by course participants is medium and the expected outcome is gaining knowledge of uncertainty evaluation methods appropriate to various metrology disciplines. The course will cover the traditional Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement (GUM) approach to uncertainty evaluation and Monte Carlo and Bayesian methods.
Parallel sessions are planned on uncertainty evaluation for physical and chemical quantities. Examples developed within the EMUE (Examples of Measurement Uncertainty Evaluation) project will be presented, explained step-by-step and followed by discussion sessions.
A session will be devoted to presentation of practical problems, where the training participants will have chance to present their examples which will be followed by discussion and final session will be devoted to conformity assessment as well as software for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty.
Course presenters will be from IMBiH, and national metrology institutes Italy (INRIM), Portugal (IPQ), France (LNE), United Kingdom (NPL), Germany (PTB), Netherlands (VSL), as well as from UK's national accreditation body (UKAS) and UK's designated institute in the field of referent materials (LGC).
The intention is to hold the event in Sarajevo, but this is subject to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and any associated travel constraints across Europe in early year 2021. If the event cannot be staged as a physical event in Sarajevo, then it will be changed to an online event. A decision on this will be taken 2 months prior to the event, in mid/late January 2021 and every participant will receive notification in due course.
