NEW SUCCESS OF IMBIH IN CONFIRMING ITS CAPABILITIES

For the first time the coordinator of an EMPIR (15RPT03 HUMEA - Expansion of European research capabilities in humidity measurement) project is an emerging Institute

EMPIR (EUROPEAN METROLOGY PROGRAMME FOR INNOVATION AND RESEARCH) is the most important European program for the metrology research. Main goal of EMPIR is coordination of the research programs that should provide an answer to the current science challenges, supporting and developing International System (SI) of units.

EMPIR is a successor of EMRP (European Metrology Research Programme) whose last call for science projects was in year 2013. The purpose of EMPIR projects is to respond to industry requirements and to support metrology development in countries with less developed metrology, and to narrow the measuring capabilities gap in Europe.

IMBIH has been a part of the EMRP as the only Institute from the region, and has continued participating in the EMPIR projects. Recently, Ms. Fiona Redgraveand and Ms. Katherine Dunne of EURAMET Management Support UNIT located in Great Britain, visited Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the negotiation meeting of the new project.

Reason for this visit was negotiation process for the coordination and implementation of the new EMPIR project, that will last for the next three years, which includes, besides IMBIH, nine other European Institutes.  Until now, IMBIH took part in 10 European research scientific projects, and was a work package leader in two projects. In 15RPT03-HUMEA project, whose goal is development of possibilities in humidity measurements, IMBIH is a coordinator of the EMPIR project for the first time. It is also the first time that a coordinator does not come from group of the most developed European Institutes, but from a small and emerging Institute.

Coordinator of the project is Ms. Nedžadeta Hodžić, dipl. Physicist and a technical manager of the Temperature laboratory of IMBIH.

Temperature and humidity laboratory of IMBIH, in cooperation with LMK laboratory (Laboratorij za metrologijo in kakovost- LMK) which is holder of the Slovenian national standards for temperature and humidity, and national measurement Institutes from other European countries, like national measurement institute from Germany (Physikalisch-technische Bundesanstalt –PTB), Italy (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica-INRIM ) and Czech Republic (Český metrologický institut-ČMI ), has made a big step forward in the field of humidity measurements.

Primary DP humidity generator has been bought from LMK (Laboratorij za metrologijo in kakovost, Slovenija). With a similar model of the former generation of this generator, colleagues from LMK obtained best measurements capabilities in this field in year 2014.

Besides this generator, laboratory has a secondary system for the humidity calibration, and can provide calibration of relative humidity and dew point calibration as well.

The first CMC claim for the humidity measurements is in review process. Its approval will bring International recognition of  our measurement capabilities and acceptance of certificates issued by our laboratory. With recognition of our measurement capabilities and our certificates, support to our industry will be more complete.

In 2015 Temperature and humidity laboratory took part in 5 International intercomparisons that will support future additional CMC claims;

-Calibration of thermocouples by comparison from 0°C to 1100 °C – EURAMET project 1358

-Water triple point intercomparison, EURAMET project 1357

-Calibration of Pt/Pd thermocouples up to 1500°C, EURAMET project 1268

-Intercomparison on dew point realization on temperatures from -40°C to 20°C, EURAMET project 1382

-SPRT thermometers calibration according to ITS-90 in fix points Ar TP to  Zn FP EURAMET.T-K9 (continues during yaer 2016. too)

Temperature and humidity laboratory takes part in following EMRP/EMPIR projects:

-       Metrology for essential climate variables

-       Developing traceable capabilities in thermal metrology

-     Expansion of European research capabilities in humidity measurement

Besides already mentioned projects in the field of temperature and humidity, Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking part in following research EMRP/EMPIR projects:

-       Sensor development and calibration method for inline detection of viscosity and solids content of non-Newtonian fluids

-       Measurement tools for Smart Grid stability and quality

-       Traceability routes for electrical power quality measurements

-       Metrology for biogas

-       Matrix reference material for environmental analysis

-       Traceable calibration of automatic weighing instruments operating in the dynamic mode

-       Absorbed dose in water and air
