Representatives of the Laboratory of Time and Frequency recently participated in the BIPM–COOMET UTC Summer School, held from September 28 to 30 in Tashkent. The event was hosted by the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM). Focused on time and frequency metrology, the summer school aimed to strengthen national scientific and technical capacities within the UTC(k) domain.

The lectures and sessions covered several key areas, including:

  • UTC and UTC(k) systems,

  • Time transfer technologies via GNSS,

  • Atomic clocks and their operating principles,

  • Analysis of time and frequency data,

  • Generation of time scales for UTC(k) activities,

  • Practical training with modern analytical tools.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in practical exercises using online BIPM tools. The first day focused on UTC/UTC(k) systems and GNSS time transfer, featuring presentations by distinguished lecturers from the BIPM and COOMET. The second day covered atomic clocks, giving participants the opportunity to visit the Time and Frequency Laboratory and learn about its equipment firsthand. The final day was dedicated to practical exercises in data analysis and time scale generation. By participating in these activities, the Lab of Time and Frequency continues to enhance its capabilities of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBiH).
