Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the 28th meeting of the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), held from 13 to 15 October 2026 in Versailles, France. Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented at this important international gathering by Milica Ristović Krstić, Director of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The General Conference on Weights and Measures is the highest decision-making body of the international metrology system and a forum for addressing scientific, institutional and strategic matters that shape the development of measurement worldwide. Its work supports the reliability and international comparability of measurement results—essential foundations for science, industry, trade, health and environmental protection, and the development of emerging technologies.
The meeting agenda covered several issues central to the future of global metrology. These included the further digital transformation of the international metrology system, the future definition of the second, technical actions to ensure the continuity of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and the development of an international lunar reference time scale traceable to UTC.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation provided an opportunity to follow emerging international priorities in metrology, exchange experience with representatives of national metrology institutes and other relevant organisations, and strengthen cooperation with the international metrology community. Such engagement supports the continued development of the country’s national metrology infrastructure and its alignment with current international practices and requirements.
