The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBiH) participated in the meeting of the Convention on the Control and Marking of Articles of Precious Metals, held from 7 to 9 October 2026 in Rome, Italy.

This international meeting provided an important opportunity to promote IMBiH’s newly accredited services, particularly considering that the Convention focuses on the control and marking of articles of precious metals.

IMBiH has recently obtained accreditation according to BAS EN ISO 17034, for reference material producers, and BAS EN ISO/IEC 17043, for proficiency testing providers. These accreditations represent an important step in the development of the Institute’s new services in the field of chemical testing of precious metal alloys, intended for laboratories and institutions operating in this area.

During the meeting, particular attention was given to the presentation of reference materials for gold and silver alloys, which enable practical instrument verification, quality control and monitoring of the reliability of measurement results. The possibilities for organizing proficiency testing for laboratories were also presented as an additional tool for assessing their technical competence.

The services presented, particularly the reference materials designed for analysis by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), attracted considerable interest among participants. The positive response demonstrates that IMBiH’s developed capabilities meet the specific needs of the professional community and opens up opportunities for future international cooperation.

Through its participation in this meeting, IMBiH achieved its objective of presenting its newly accredited services to the relevant international professional community, further strengthening its position as a reliable and competitive partner in the field of reference materials and proficiency testing for chemical analysis of precious metal alloys. This activity also contributes to enhancing IMBiH’s international recognition and creating new opportunities for cooperation with laboratories and institutions involved in the control and testing of precious metals.
