The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBIH), through the research work of its experts, participated in the world's leading conference in the field of precision electromagnetic measurements, the Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2026), held from September 6 to 11 in Madrid.
In collaboration with experts from the national metrology institutes of Italy (INRIM) and Sweden (RISE), IMBIH presented a scientific paper titled "A Synchro-phasor Based Method for the Remote Calibration of Instrument Current Transformers in Power System", dedicated to a new method for the remote calibration of instrument current transformers in the power grid.
As part of the European scientific project EPM 23IND01-ENSURE (Electric energy and supply reliability-ENSURE), IMBIH as part of an international project consortium as well as member of The European Metrology Network (EMN) for Smart Electricity Grids, is working on the development of advanced measurement methodology that enhance the reliability and stability of power distribution and transmission networks.
As a result of this collaboration, a methodology was developed that enables the in-situ accuracy testing of instrument current transformers, i.e., during their regular operation in the power grid. The research results confirm that the proposed approach can be applied for the remote calibration/verification of current sensors and transformers in high-voltage transmission networks (voltage levels of 110 kV and above), without any interruption to the power supply.
Through this and similar research projects, IMBIH continues to actively collaborate with leading European National Metrology Institutes and contribute to the development of advanced measurement methods applied in smart electricity grids (Smart Grids) with advanced metering infrastructure
