The 64th anniversary of the existence and work of the "Kemal Kapetanovic" Institute in Zenica was celebrated through the scientific-professional conference "Modern Materials and Technologies in the Business of Companies in the Western Balkans", which was held on October 2 and 3, 2025 in Zenica. The conference included participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina from the public and private sectors, as well as representatives of the University of Zagreb, the University of Belgrade, the University of Kragujevac, as well as other business partners from the region.
The "Kemal Kapetanovic" Institute operates within the University of Zenica and has many years of research and development practice in the field of metallurgy. The following laboratories currently operate within the "Kemal Kapetanovic" Institute, accredited testing laboratories: LI-02-02 (for the field of mechanical testing of metallic materials); LI-02-03 (for the field of metallographic testing of metallic materials); LI-02-04 (for the field of chemical testing of metallic materials), LI-02-06 (for physical and mechanical testing of construction materials, including refractory materials), as well as the accredited calibration laboratory LK-02-01 (for the field of calibration of force, torque and hardness devices). These laboratories are accredited in accordance with the requirements of the BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard.
On behalf of the Institute of Metrology of BiH 02.10.2025. Haris Memić, deputy director and Šejla Ališić, assistant director for industrial metrology were present. On that occasion, a panel was organized on the topic: "The role and importance of testing and calibration laboratories in ensuring the quality of production and service activities" where the following topics were covered: 1. The importance of the accreditation process in BiH from the aspect of quality control of products and services, 2. The structure/organization of the measurement system in BiH and 3. Tendencies in the development of test and calibration equipment. Šejla Ališić participated in this panel on behalf of the Institute of Metrology of BiH, where she gave a presentation on the topic: "Organization of the Metrology System in BiH". On this occasion were presented: the role of the Institute of Metrology of BiH, the organization of the metrology system in BiH in accordance with the Law on Metrology of BiH, as well as the capacities of the IMBIH laboratories, i.e. the calibration and measurement capabilities (CMC) of the national standards of Bosnia and Herzegovina registered in the Key Comparison Database of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM KCDB).
