Representatives of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBiH) – Director General Milica Ristović Krstić, Assistant Director for Scientific Metrology Zijad Džemić, and Head of Department for Cooperation with International and B&H Institutions Alen Bošnjaković – took part in the 19th EURAMET General Assembly, which was held in Berlin and hosted by Germany's national metrology institute, PTB, from 2 to 6 June 2025.
The event brought together more than a hundred participants from national metrology institutes across Europe and beyond, as well as representatives of international organisations and institutions that support the development of metrology. The aim was to strengthen collaboration among members, review progress made, adopt strategic documents, and plan future steps within the framework of the European Partnership on Metrology (EPM).
Two key workshops were held alongside the main programme: "Making a Strong Case for the Value of Metrology" and "Digitalisation."
Zijad Džemić, Assistant Director for Scientific Metrology at IMBiH, gave a presentation during the workshop on effectively communicating the value of metrology. The session focused on practical strategies for raising awareness about the importance of metrology among policymakers and relevant institutions. Alongside IMBiH, contributions came from GUM (Poland), IPQ (Portugal), and NPL (United Kingdom), which also organised the event. The workshop created a supportive environment for sharing experiences and exchanging ideas, with participants gaining practical advice on how to adapt successful approaches to their national contexts.
In addition, projects submitted under the 2025 Call were presented, covering key areas such as Health, Integrated Metrology, Research Potential, and Regulation. A new call for 2026 was also announced, with a focus on Fundamental Metrology, Industry, Normative, and Research Potential. One hundred fifty proposals were submitted for the 2025 Call. After pre-selection, 50 projects were shortlisted for further evaluation by EURAMET. The final selection, to be conducted by independent experts, is expected in September 2025, following the submission of complete project documentation. IMBiH is participating in at least six of the submitted projects.
One important announcement was that Switzerland is now a full member of the European Partnership on Metrology. This means that METAS, the Swiss national metrology institute, can lead research projects and participate in more international partnerships, thereby supporting EURAMET's goals and European cooperation.
Finally, it was announced that the 20th EURAMET General Assembly will take place in Georgia.
