On May 27, 2025, the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina solemnly marked World Metrology Day and a significant anniversary – 150 years since the signing of the Metre Convention. The event took place in the White Hall of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the historical foundations of the metric system, as well as to highlight the modern role of metrology in science, industry, and everyday life.

This year’s global slogan, “Measurements for All Times, for All People,” rooted in the era of the French Revolution when the first physical prototype of the metre was established, emphasizes the universal value and essential importance of measurement for the progress and well-being of humanity.

As part of the celebration program, addresses were delivered presenting the continuity and development of the Institute through the perspective of three generations of leadership. Experiences and visions were shared by the current Director of the Institute, Mrs. Milica Ristović-Krstić; Mr. Esad Tuzović, Director from 2002 to 2011; and Mr. Zijad Džemić, Assistant Director for Scientific Metrology and Director of the Institute from 2011 to 2023.

As a token of appreciation for their contribution to the development of metrology in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in recognition of outstanding work and dedication in this field, the Director of the Institute, Mrs. Milica Ristović-Krstić, presented certificates of appreciation not only to distinguished individuals, but also to countries with which successful cooperation in metrology has been achieved. The certificates were received by representatives of embassies and international delegations who attended the ceremony.

The commemoration of World Metrology Day and this exceptional anniversary reminded us of the importance of precision, accuracy, and trust in measurement – the foundations of modern society.
