From May 6 to 9, 2025, the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBIH) successfully conducted a training program on the topic of “Precious Metal Testing.” The training was organized at the request of the National Metrology Institute of North Macedonia – Bureau of Metrology (https://www.bom.gov.mk), with the aim of strengthening capacities in the field of testing and quality control of precious metal items. 

The training program included a combination of theoretical lectures and practical work, with a particular focus on transferring knowledge and experience from IMBIH experts in accordance with relevant international standards and accreditation requirements. 

Key topics covered during the training included:

-       The quality system based on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, which is fully implemented at IMBIH;

-       Core concepts of metrological traceability and validation/verification of test methods;

-       Practical application of the test method according to EN ISO 11426: Jewellery — Determination of gold in gold jewellery alloys — Cupellation method (fire assay);

-       Practical application of the test method according to EN ISO 11427: Jewellery — Determination of silver in silver jewellery alloys — Volumetric (potentiometric) method.

This training represents an important step toward establishing and enhancing institutional cooperation between the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bureau of Metrology of North Macedonia. Through the exchange of expert knowledge and practical experience, both institutions continue to contribute to the advancement of metrology and the assurance of quality in the field of precious metal testing across the region.
