The XXIV IMEKO World Congress, the International Metrology Confederation, was held from August 26th to 29th in Hamburg, Germany. The host of this world congress was PTB - Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, the German National Institute for Metrology. The XXIV IMEKO World Congress under the slogan "Think Metrology" emphasizes current topics such as digitization. The congress gathered 1150 participants from all over the world and 640 presentations were held.
IMBiH had two participants at the IMEKO World congress. Mr. Sc. Šejla Ališić, Assistant Director for industrial metrology, presented the paper: "Pilot Study Comparison of Developed and Improved Mass Scale Measurement Capabilities", which resulted from the scientific research project EMPIR RealMass. The paper was presented at the session of the technical committee TC 3 - Force, Mass, Moment and Gravity. Also, two more papers in which she participated were presented: "Implementation of dissemination of unit of mass in emerging mass laboratories" which resulted from the same EMPIR RealMass project, and the paper: "Traceability for indentation measurements in Brinell-Vickers-Knoop hardness", which resulted from the EMPIR TracInd BVK-H project. Dr. Alen Bošnjaković, Head of the Department for Cooperation with International and B&H Institutions, chaired two sessions on TC-21 Committee for Mathematical Tools for Measurements. He also serves as the TC21 scientific secretary. Also, Alen Bošnjaković participated in the paper presented at the conference on "DCC2GO - Supporting the Implementation of Digital Calibration Certificates in the European Metrology Community", which resulted from the research project DCC2GO.
The keynote speakers at the IMEKO World congress were Nobel Prize winners and other eminent representatives. In the Hamburg City Hall, the Minister of Economy and Innovation held a welcome reception for all the participants of the IMEKO World Congress, a gala dinner was held for all the participants of the IMEKO Congress, and various technical visits that were organized as part of the congress. 39 exhibitors, manufacturers of measuring instruments and measuring equipment participated in the congress. All papers from the IMEKO XXIV World Congress will be published in Elsevier journals.
The IMEKO World Congress was preceded by the 68th General Assembly and Technical Committee of this confederation, which was held on August 24th and 25th, 2024 in Hamburg. IMBiH is one of 42 organizations that are members of the IMEKO confederation. Šejla Ališić, Assistant Director for industrial metrology, participated on behalf of IMBiH at the 68th General Assembly. President of the IMEKO Confederation and Vice-President of the PTB, dr. Prof. h. c. Frank Härtig, chaired the General Assembly, and was also the chair of the XXIV IMEKO World Congress. Alen Bošnjaković was appointed as the TC21 Scientific Secretary by the General Assembly. Also, the AMCTM book XII - Advanced Mathematical and Computational Tools in Metrology and Testing XIII was presented at the General Assembly, which resulted from the International Conference for Advanced Mathematical and Computational Tools in Metrology and Testing (AMCTM 2023). This conference was organised by IMBiH in cooperation with the Technical Committee for Mathematical Tools for Measurements (TC21 IMEKO), the Technical Committee for Digitization (TC6 IMEKO), the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO), and the European Metrology Network for Mathematics and Statistics (MATHMET).
The chairmanship of the IMEKO confederation was taken over by Prof.Dr. Paolo Carbone from Italy. IMEKO World Congresses are held every three years, and since 1958, when the first one was held in Budapest, Hungary. It has been announced that the XXV IMEKO World Congress organized by INRIM, National Metrology Institute of Italy, will be held in 2027 in the city of Rimini, Italy.
