World Metrology Day 2024 is celebrated with the theme "We measure today for a sustainable tomorrow".
The Natural Sciences Commission unanimously adopted the resolution initiated by Kazakhstan at the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris on November 22, 2023, and World Metrology Day was given official United Nations (UN) status.
The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBIH) marked this day by organizing a training on the topic: "Assessment of measurement uncertainty", which was attended by about 30 participants from accredited calibration and testing laboratories, as well as laboratories that are in the process of accreditation. The training was also attended by representatives of inspection bodies and other interested parties. The goal of the training is to emphasize the importance of trust in the measurement results for the purposes of consumer protection and the fulfillment of the requirements of the BAS EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
The director of the Institute, Milica Ristović Krstić, welcomed the participants and gave a presentation about the Metrology Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Training in the area of measurement uncertainty assessment was held in three sessions:
• Introduction to measurement uncertainty and its assessment in accordance with the GUM (Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement) and the Monte Carlo method, lecturer: dr. sc. Alen Bošnjaković.
• Empirical approach in assessing measurement uncertainty when applying test methods, lecturer: dr. sc. Katarina Hafner –Vuk.
• Determination of measurement uncertainty through application, lecturer: mr. sc. Vladimir Milojević.
After the lecture, a joint discussion was held with the participants, and certificates of participation in the training were awarded.
IMBIH is an institution whose main role, in addition to the competences prescribed by law, is to support the economy and business entities. In addition to services related to equipment calibration and ensuring traceability, we are committed to the continuous transfer of knowledge to accredited business entities, those who are in the process of accreditation according to standards EN ISO/IEC 17020 and EN ISO/IEC 17025, and to all others who are interested in the field of metrology. In the future, IMBIH will organize regular trainings on topics related to the implementation of the aforementioned standards, as well as thematic trainings that are of interest to individual economic entities.
