The EURAMET 22NRM07 GuideRadPros „Harmonisation, Update and Implementation of Standards Related to Radiation Protection Dosimeters for Photon Radiation“ is a three-year research project initiated to support standardization in radiation protection dosimetry, related to the ISO 4037 standard series, IEC standards and the upcoming changes due to new operational quantities of ICRU Report 95. This project will provide protocols and guidance to calibration laboratories, metrology institutes, standardization bodies and regulators for a consistent and harmonized approach to radiation protection measurements and calibrations. Proposals to update ISO 4037:2019 and future needs for type testing and implementation of new quantities according to ICRU Report 95 will also be provided.
The 22NRM07 GuideRadPros project consortium consists of 18 EURAMET member countries. The project coordinator is the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK). The Laboratory for Ionizing Radiation of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of a multidisciplinary consortium and the leader of the "WP5 Impact" work package, which, in the next three years, will have tasks to:
- Develop a traceable and harmonized approach to X-ray spectrometry in concordance with the ISO 4037 standard series;
- Develop cost-effective procedures and guidance for the calibration of dosimeters and determination of their response as a function of photon energy to enable smaller metrology institutes and other calibration laboratories to implement the ISO 4037 standard series and
- Produce guidance on validated procedures for harmonized type testing based on IEC standards (e.g., IEC 61526, IEC 60846-1, IEC 60846-2, IEC 61017, IEC 60532 and IEC 62387), thus, assess future standardization needs and produce a guidance document for the implementation of the new operational quantities of ICRU Report 95 into standards and regulations. During the mentioned activities it is planned to collaborate closely with ISO, IEC, and their users, including the European Metrology Network (EMN) for radiation protection and the IAEA.
The project officially started on June 1st, 2023. The kick-off meeting of the participants in the project, which also marks the beginning of project activities, was held in Vantaa, Finland, on 10.-11. July 2023.
