€870.000 allocated for the project „Extension of Capacities of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina II“

The Institute of Metrology of BiH, continuing a successful cooperation with partners from the Czech Republic, presented and officially opened the project “Extension of Capacities of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina II”, for which the partners will provide €870.000.

On today’s ceremony marking the opening of this project, audience was addressed by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in BiH Jakub Skalník, Director of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zijad Džemić, Jiri Tesar on behalf of the Czech Metrology Institute (MCI), and Eva Lacinová, a project manager of the Czech Development Agency.

The representative of the Czech Metrology Institute Jiri Tesar pointed out that metrology is necessary for industrial production, energy sector, environmental protection and many other sectors, and that its development is necessary for the development of any modern government and state.

This project represents a continuation of the successful project “Extension of Capacities of the Institute of Metrology of BiH” which was completed in December 2016 and whose value amounted to about €660.000.

The project supported Laboratory for Electrical Quantities, Laboratory for Time and Frequency, Laboratory for measuring quantity of liquid fuels, quantity of gaseous fuels and the quality of gaseous fuels which are all a part of the IMBiH system.

Project manager of the Czech Development Agency Eva Lacinová expressed her satisfaction with the cooperation with a committed partner such as BiH with whom they started to develop a second project. The success of the previous project enabled the continuation of a successful cooperation that will surely continue.

The new project will support Laboratory for Time and Frequency, Laboratory for Measuring the Quantity of Liquefied and Gaseous Fuels, Laboratory for Quality Testing of Liquid Fuels and Lubricants, Liquid Density Laboratory and Laboratory of Ionizing Radiation. The planned duration of the project is the end of 2019.

The continuation of the project will extend the range of calibration/testing capabilities of the mentioned laboratories, including the procurement of the equipment, knowledge transfer, field training, study visits and interlaboratory comparison, as well as the inclusion of new measuring intervals and measuring methods, especially in the energy sector.

Special attention is given to the promotion and broadening of the scope of services of IMBiH with internationally recognized measuring results for existing and potential clients in Bosnia and Herzegovina or in the region of Western Balkans.

It is important to emphasize that the Government of the Czech Republic is in most cases reluctant to approve the continuation of any project. This is only a sign that Czech partners recognized the quality of both projects as well as the metrological capacities of the Institute.

Zijad Džemić, the Director of IMBiH, on this occasion said that the Institute aims at providing services that are internationally recognized, which implies measurements which are characterized as trustworthy by our clients. In order for a client to trust certain measurement, the process of measuring must be done using verified and calibrated measuring devices. Therefore there are laboratories that perform verification and calibration and the Institute has been working on this for the past seven years by cooperating with governments of other countries, among which he singled out the government of Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Turkey.

The Ambassador Skalník pointed out that the value of these projects amounts to about 3 million euros and that they are concerned with the rule of law, public administration reform, economic growth, environmental protection, water treatment, etc.

Apart from this project, the Czech Republic and BiH nurture long-term cooperation resulting in a successful cooperation on 35 joint projects. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed at today’s ceremony which officially marked the continuation of a successful cooperation. The project was facilitated by the Czech Development Agency (CDA) and Czech Metrology Institute (CMI) and in cooperation with the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMBiH).

Strengthening the position and credibility of the Institute as a main governmental institution in the field of metrology primarily contributes to the strengthening of the industry, as well as strengthening the stability of domestic environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in private and public sector.
