On November 5 and 6, 2019, a workshop was organized by EURAMET on communication with stakeholders in the field of metrology services. The workshop was held at the premises of SMD, Belgian Metrology Institute.
This year marked a major milestone in the fundamentals of metrology by changing the approach in defining the basic units of measurement in the SI system, Ampere, mole, kilogram and Kelvin. At the same time, the continued development of metrological services at all levels and their widespread use, from providing traceability of measurements at the highest state-of-the-art level of scientific research, to services that enable the free movement of goods and protect the interests of end users, that is citizens in general. The specific position of metrology in society and human activity needs to be brought closer to all stakeholders, and there is a continuing need to find new and more effective communication strategies tailored to specific users of services.
The communication workshop aimed at presenting various tools in the formation of individual communication strategies implemented by the metrology institutes of Europe, and included representatives from around 20 institutes dealing with this topic. Experts from EURAMET, EURAMET MSU and NML at LGC UK presented their experiences, and in practical group work, the designing of real campaigns began to promote the importance and role of metrology in the field of environmental and health protection and technological development needed for the more effective use of energy.
