Institute of Metrology of BiH has in the past three years in cooperation with National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB), implemented a bilateral project Strengthening Metrology and Quality Infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2015. – 2017.).
The project has enabled a significant improvement of technical and metrology competences of the Institute’s laboratories and thus strengthened metrology infrastructure of BiH and speeded up the integration process into EU single market. This project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Final meeting was held on January 24, 2018 in the building of Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Activities within the PTB project in BiH have been realized with the aim of improving metrological traceability and strengthening the quality of infrastructure, improving business climate by providing opportunities for small and medium companies to improve their quality of product and production processes and thus their competitiveness. Furthermore, additional protection of consumers from incorrect measurements is ensured. The project was aimed at transfer of knowledge and advancing the expertise of state laboratories and national measurement standards.
The project was evaluated as very successful and number of metrology results were achieved and significant progress of state laboratories was enabled. Numerous PTB experts have visited laboratories for pressure, temperature and humidity, electrical quantities, time and frequency, and chemistry. Activities and trainings regarding the requirements of EN ISO/IEC 17043, EN ISO /IEC 17020 standards were organized as well as additional trainings for pre-packaged products, ionizing radiation, volume, etc.
Activities of this project contributed to the successful international demonstration of calibration and measurement capabilities of state laboratories, and their entry into the BIPM Key comparison database (International Bureau of Weights and Measures). The project supported the introduction of the quality system according to the requirements of the EN ISO/IEC 17043 standard for PT – Competency Assessment of Laboratory for Chemistry by DAkkS, German accreditation body, which resulted in the accreditation on February 13, 2017. Entity institutions for metrology received a knowledge transfer in the field of control of pre-packaged products in BiH, as well as training through the study visit to Sate Office for Metrology (DZM) in Zagreb and necessary equipment for performing measurement. Also, numerous meetings were held with participants and interested parties in BiH, and support was given to the rapid integration of BiH into EU.
